Well it’s been a week since my “first” run. I survived Black Friday weekend as a retail manager. And I’m ready to get this running thing going.
I decided to to do the Couch to 5K program. Several people have mentioned it to me and I remembered that I had a copy of it on my antiquated Ipod touch from several years ago. I think the one I downloaded is actually called “Ease into 5K” but whatever. It’s all the same to me and will hopefully keep me interested in what I am trying to accomplish.
The weather has been nasty the last several days and was still pretty nasty today. But I managed to find a lull in the rain and took my chances. I have a park with a track in it right next door to my apartment but I opted to drive a few miles and hit up Panther Creek State Park.
So basically the C25K program is a program that alternates walking and running and slowly builds up to all running.
Week 1 Day 1 went like this:
5 minute warm up
then 3 rounds of:
Run 30 seconds then walk 45 seconds
Run 45 seconds then walk 60 seconds
Run 60 seconds then walk 90 seconds
5 minute cool down
It wasn’t too bad overall but I could definitely tell a difference between the 30 second run and the 60 second run. I completed all the running portions except for one. I happened to be going up a hill at the time. I tried but I just couldn’t finish the run part of it. I have to say that I am pretty proud of myself that I got out there and and did it. Normally I would wait for a sunny day but it doesn’t appear that there are going to be too many of them in the near future. I don’t have an option of running on a treadmill so I will have to get these runs in when I can.
And in other news:
I signed up for a New Years Day 5K
I don’t really have friends here in Tennessee that I run or exercise with so my District Manager and his family are going to do with it me. It’s nice to have such a great boss. He told me he would stay with me the whole race and I kinda laughed and said “you probably walk faster than I run”. I just think it would be more fun to have someone to start with and then have someone waiting at the finish with me. Hmmmm, maybe I could talk Mom into coming up for the weekend. (Let’s see if she actually reads this and responds )
My goal for this race is to complete it in under 45 minutes.
